"Change"
Scott Blust

Darkness descends upon the quiet night.
Beautiful flowers fade silently away,
away from a world drained of color and light.

Leaves undulate in the shadows and break free
then fall unto the frost-covered grass
to continue the dying dance beneath the tree.

Pale headlights moving down a lost highway
casting ghostly hues in narrow beams.
Never do they approach, but rather melt away.

The wind chills and whips around
and tears a hole in the moonless sky.
Icy crystals rain down and blanket the ground.

The sun eagerly waits in the shadow silence
for the last of the night to pass.
A cock crows from atop a broken fence.

The sun breaks the horizon and a new day arrives.
Snowy hills glisten in light bearing beams
as the darkness says its final good-byes.

"Dream"
Scott Blust

Sleep falls upon my tired eyes
and pulls me into the surrealness.
The land of delusions and terror;
a place where impossible is possible.
Sweet dreams flowing beyond reach
while malevolent images over take me.
Struggling to regain control lost
in the onrushing tide of emotions.
I see the distant sea of happiness,
yet I cannot leave these rocks of despair.
Favorable winds aid me to depart.
The sea spray washes over me
as I reach the once distant sea
I wake in a cold sweat
and find myself still amid the rocks.

"Girl In the Window"
Scott Blust

She sits by the broken window,
with windblown hair cascading downward.
Peering into her streaked mirror
while her mind drifts and dances.
She holds a torn photograph close,
close to the tear in her heart.
She whispers gently on delicate lips
and runs her fingers upon the cool glass.
Everything begins to fall around her
as the starry night holds silent.
This angel in soft velvet glow
is overtaken by warm growing chill.
Cherished memories dissolve and melt away
while she chokes back the impending tears.
She calls out into the void
and searches the barren darkness of seclusion.
Her delicate lips slowly part;
she holds her luminous eyes tightly closed.
She loses herself in one last embrace,
one last kiss good night.

"Fading Mist"
Scott Blust

A young man sets upon a rocky precipice
looking over the sweeping waves.
Holding tight to the memories
while they wane into the fog.
A light mist conceals the tears,
tears he could not hold back.
Trembling hands fumble for her ring,
the only part of her he knows.
Uneasily he rises to his feet and pauses,
looking to the distant horizon for solace.
He casts the ring over the troubling edge
and watches it descend onto the rocks.
Memories of her stream through his head
wishing he could capture them in a bottle.
He closes his eyes slowly and thinks of her
as he falls down onto his knees.
The glittering emerald eyes and effortless smile
peering out from the flowing dark hair.
A gentle rumbling echoes through the heavens
announcing the oncoming tempest.
The fog becomes dense and the mist quickens;
he feels the delicate touch of her hand.
The eyes meet once more in an endless gaze
and she falls into his embrace.
He rests his head on her shoulder;
she tries to choke back the tears.
He knows that they will never be again
and he backs away on the unstable ground.
Time stands still as they stare at each other,
both unmoving in the growing wind.
He begins to run away from her
leaving the emotion charged air behind.
Never turning back once to behold her
as lightning crosses the shrouded night.
The quickening rain pours down ardently upon her
while she stands upon the broken rocks.
She realizes that he is gone forever now;
she realizes what she has lost.
Her vain cries to him are obscured,
lost forever amid the unwavering gale.

"Ode to Spring"
Scott Blust

Spring enters with a vengeance
striking down the hopeless winter.
Immortal sunbeams stab ice and snow,
while warming the once cold ground.
Spring usurps the seasonal crown,
banishing winter to nine months death.
Millions of snow crystals decimated
leaving no traces behind.
As callous as it seems
the story unfolds annually.
The seasonal struggle for reign
known to some as the glory of spring.

"Endless Rain"
Scott Blust

Cloudy day.
Grey skies swirl overhead.
Day fades to black.
An intermission; a calm.
Rain falls heavy
upon drenched souls.
Its stings the heart,
like thorn to finger.
Rain drops pelt my window
insisting to be allowed in.
Cold and intensifying,
it is an unrelenting force.
Never living or dying
just a constant torrent.
Just an endless rain.

"Yesterday"
Scott Blust

Yesterday I saw you standing there.
Smiling and offering reassurance.
Yesterday you were there,
just around the bend.
Always there lending an ear;
giving your shoulder to cry upon.
Yesterday you helped me up
when I could not stand.
You were never too far,
just around the corner waiting.
Today I looked around that corner,
but instead you were not there.
You moved on
and I am left alone.
Tomorrow will come, I know this,
but where will it take me?
What if I should fall?

"3:37 AM"
Scott Blust

Sleepless night.
Alone again,
dead again.
Old memories drag me down
into the emptiness.
Damn this silence,
screaming silence.
Why can't I sleep?
Why can't I escape?
Maybe I will,
but the silence will wait...
the memories will linger.

"One Day"
Scott Blust

I thought about that girl of May
and the warm day in June.
Walking in the fading light
by the gentle flowing river.
Squirrels and ducks compete
for pieces of food on the bank.
Dusk brings warm evening air
as moon and street lamps illuminate.
Crickets chirp in secluded woods.
Trees obscure the background noise
as soft shadows lead to soft touch.
Gentle embrace as evening fades.
A perfect ending
to a perfect beginning

"Dream II"
Scott Blust

Enter insomnia;
endless night devoid of dreams.
Waiting for dreamscapes;
wanting a release.
Trying to escape the demons,
that keep me from sleep.
Sleep seems like a distant memory
as I lie here awake.
Searching for an inner peace;
memories must be destroyed.
To take back the night,
the past must be forgotten.
And with it all hope.

"Siren"
Scott Blust

My sweet siren…
I cannot ignore her song.
Holding onto my soul;
pleasure, pain, nothing.
I am lost and torn;
my soul waivers.
I cannot leave and
I cannot pursue her.
Emptiness and death,
the choice is shrouded.
Nothing or rocks.
I am lost,
I drown.

"Life"
Scott Blust

Pain is the unlikely friend.
Fear and uncertainty surround.
Emotion rules over all.
Love I knew.
Hatred I know well.
Happiness eludes me.
Hope deludes me.
Reality beats me down.
Fantasy welcomes me.
The past drags me down.
The future taunts me.
Nothingness envelops me.
Life is mine.

{ go back }

"Rust and Burn"
Scott Blust

Always in dream void.
One true sky.
Sleep winter moon.
Bare shadow wind.
Car hit pedestrian
like falling rain.
Drunk underwater.
Live with lies...
let them go.

{ go back }

"Darkness"
Scott Blust

Blue iridescence;
poisoned perfection.
The drug that undoes me;
my perfect drug.
Deconstructing my life slowly
in a perfect paradise illusion.
Synthetic pulse hum.
I fall into a trance
and I slip into the static.
I leave in deafening silence
as I fade away into black.

"Untitled"
Scott Blust

She dances in my dreams.
She spreads her wings,
haunting dream after dream.
The fire in her eyes
always overwhelming me.
I have no control.
She undulates through my mind
leaving footprints on my heart.
Every night in my dreams
I see and feel her.
She is so real and surreal
that I cannot seem to grasp her.
I live only in the moment
and only in dreams.

{ go back }

"Alone"
Scott Blust

Lonely.
On my own again.
Can't think straight.
Too many thoughts and memories
cluttering my mind.
Sleep is but a moment,
coming and going.
Haunting like old memories.
It's hard to face the truth.
When does it end?
Pain shall pass,
but I am still alone.

{ go back }

"Sugar"
Scott Blust

Intoxicating scent.
Drink it all in;
savor every sweet drop.
It swirls in my head
like a fine wine.
Sweet and bitter,
entangling my senses.
It envelops me
and shrouds me in mist.
Helpless and secure;
I cannot tell.
If I am dreaming,
please do not wake me.

{ go back }

"Persistent Weakness"
Scott Blust

I tried to forget you.
The rain falls down.
You are everywhere.
I am drowning.
The rain beats down.
I have lost you,
but you are not gone.
Emptiness is left;
it soaks up my dreams.
I want you to leave.
I wish you to stay.

{ go back }

"Requiem"
Scott Blust

Ashes to ashes.
You are gone.
The memory destroyed,
left behind forever.
Everything is forgotten
And all forgiven.
You remain always
forever yourself.
Close your eyes
as starlight cascades.
Close the door.
Fade away,
fall into the distance.
Love no more.

{ go back }

"Your Desire"
Scott Blust

Left awake by your thoughts.
I cannot sleep;
you will fall to dreams.
I cannot give you up.
I want you forever.
Heart, mind, and soul.
I am tired but do not sleep.
I cannot without you.
I need to breathe you in,
so I know you are here.
I want you back;
I want you to dream with me.

{ go back }

"Starshine"
Scott Blust

Where is my sunshine?
Gone is my desert rose.
Kiss me sweetly,
bring me my death.
Pale sky gives you breath
as you fade from me.
Ascending into starry night
I search for my love.
Starlight and sunshine slip away,
too fragile to grasp.
I cannot help slipping away
as I drift into the void.
The light is fading with my love.

{ go back }

"While You Were Sleeping"
Scott Blust

In my dreams I am dying.
You are suffocating me.
Life floating away,
breath by breath.
Your hands never stop,
never straying from me.
I do not die in my dreams,
but in my life.
My will is dying with every lie,
little by little.
My existence is dissolved.
It fades into the shadowed world.
I gave everything I had
until nothing was left.
You took it all,
and with it my last breath.

{ go back }

"Fall into Me"
Scott Blust

Let me into your world;
show me your vivid colors
and murky shadows.
Give me your veiled secrets;
give me the key to your heart.
I want to be the one,
there for you always.
I want to protect you
and be there when you wake.
I will love you unconditionally,
if you only give yourself to me.
I want to share your heart
and you mine.
Then we will be together
until time stands still.

{ go back }

"How are you now?"
Scott Blust

If only you were me,
then you would see.
All that you do;
tearing me in two.
The part that is dying
and letting go of trying.
The part that is always hurt
falling headlong into the dirt.
Why won't you see?
It is just not meant to be.
The sun is setting low,
but I cannot let go.
Once more I try,
but you just tell another lie.
It was my heart that you stole.
Will it fill your empty soul?
